Selects Hockey continued to prove its effectiveness as an NHL pipeline this June at the 2015 NHL Draft. 38 Selects Hockey alumni were drafted by NHL teams, highlighted by No. 1 overall draft pick Connor McDavid (ECS-O ‘96). Shortly after the Edmonton Oilers selected McDavid, the Arizona Coyotes made Dylan Strome (ECS-O ‘97) the 3rd overall pick in the draft. The Selects Hockey train kept rolling as Mitchell Marner (ECS-O ‘97) was selected 4th overall by Toronto, Pavel Zacha (Czech Selects ‘97) was taken 6th by New Jersey, and Ivan Provorov (ECS-Q ‘97) was picked up by Philadelphia at No. 7. Jakub Zboril was selected 13th overall by Boston and Jack Roslovic (Cougars ‘97) was taken 25th overall by Winnipeg to round out the impressive list of seven Selects Hockey alumni taken in the first round of the NHL draft, including five of the top seven picks!
More and more Selects alumni heard their names called throughout the two days of the seven-round event. Nine former Selects players were taken in the second round, including three players from the Sweden ‘96 team. Eight more were taken in the third round, with former players from Sweden Selects, Czech Selects, and both East and West Coast Selects. 14 more Selects alumni were taken in the final four rounds of the draft, bringing the total to 38. Not only is the NHL Draft an amazing two-day event where dreams become reality for young men, but it’s the ultimate proof of the talent, hard work, and well-rounded development that goes into the Selects Hockey program all over the world.
