LEGACY Global Sports and Selects Hockey are happy to be affiliated with the Checking for Charity non-profit tournament in 2016. The 3 day hockey event in Voorhees/Pennsauken, NJ seeks to raise money and awareness for various charities through competitive hockey. Each team competes on behalf of a charity and their performance dictates how much they will receive. There are five divisions ranging from a 35+ division to an ‘A’ Division featuring NHL stars like Johnny Gaudreau and Shayne Gostisbehere. Former Selects Hockey standouts Anthony D’Angelo and Nolan Stevens, among others, will be playing for the Selects teams this year.
There will be 3 Selects teams participating in this year’s event to raise money for both the Sports4Life Foundation and Snider Hockey. Both Snider Hockey and The Sports4Life Foundation are committed to providing high quality programs for girls and boys on both a competitive and recreational level. Snider Hockey programs are provided at no cost and are focused on underserved boys and girls who otherwise would not have the opportunity to play.
East Coast Selects-Q Regional GM Mitch Larnerd serves as the Vice President of Checking for Charity and has been involved in the event since its inception eight years ago. LEGACY Global Sports Event Manager Phil Passarelli serves as the Director of Hockey Operations for Checking for Charity and plays an influential role in overseeing the structure of the event as it continues to grow year after year.
Over the past seven years Checking for Charity has raised more than $250,000 for charity and that number should surpass $300,000 this year. In addition to the tournament in NJ Aug. 12-14, there is also a West Coast event Aug. 14-16 in Beaverton, OR. Please visit checkingforcharity.org to donate or learn how to register a team for next year’s events! Good luck to everyone involved and Go Selects Hockey!
