The James River provides many options for water tours at whatever speed you prefer. There are opportunities for kayaking, whitewater rafting, canal cruises, paddle boarding, and nature cruises. Exploring the James River is a great way to stay active, enjoy the beautiful landscapes, and become educated in the rich history Richmond has to offer.
White House of the Confederacy Tour
Less than thirty minutes from the River City Sportsplex, the White House of the Confederacy is a unique attraction for history buffs. Take a guided tour of the restored mansion that served as the residence of Confederate President Jefferson Davis during the Civil War. The adjoining museum contains many important historical artifacts from the Civil War.
Kings Dominion Amusement Park
Kings Dominion is one of the nation’s most exciting amusement parks, featuring 15 roller coasters and more than 60 rides in total. There’s something for everyone at Kings Dominion, as it includes thrill rides, family rides, and even a newly renovated 20 acre water park. It’s located in Doswell, about a 45 minute drive from River City Sportsplex.
Ride a Bike
Richmond is a great city for biking, whether you’re interested in a guided tour of the city or a mountain biking excursion at Pocahontas State Park. Richmond is so well equipped for biking that they actually hosted the 2015 UCI Road World Cycling Championships. Biking around Richmond is a great way to take in the history, food, and sights of the region.
